Master of Accountancy Programme Overview

The CUHK Master of Accountancy (MAcc) Programme is designed for accounting and business graduates as well as non-business graduates. The programme aims to nurture professional accountants who can apply accounting knowledge and data analytics to develop business insights.

On top of bridging students to local and international professional accounting qualifications, the curriculum well prepares students for careers in different business functions, such as accounting, finance, management, and consulting.


The MAcc Programme has been well recognized by the industry as a leading Master’s programme in accounting that yields graduates with promising career prospects. The programme has also been globally recognized and accredited by all major professional accounting bodies, such as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)—International, the Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA), the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia, and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Career Support

The programme provides various forms of career support and student-enrichment activities to enhance students’ career opportunities and prospects. We have strong connections with the business community. Our students have benefited from internship opportunities at Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC, BDO, SHINEWING, and a number of other financial/securities companies and banks, such as Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Limited, CTI Capital Management, CITIC Capital Management, DBS, and Bank of China. After graduation, our alumni receive continuous career support and our valuable business networks aid their further career development.

Our graduates have a range of promising career options. Some work in the accounting industry, developing expertise in auditing, taxation, forensic accounting, and consulting, while many others choose to work in finance, banking, and related areas, becoming management trainees, financial analysts, risk-management consultants, and investment analysts in private funds, investment banks, and consulting firms.


Founded in 1963, CUHK is a prestigious and comprehensive research university recognized around the world for its excellence in teaching and research. CUHK Business School, established in the same year, is a pioneer in business education: it was the first business school in Hong Kong to offer BBA, MBA, and Executive MBA qualifications. The School has the largest business school alumni network in Hong Kong, with more than 32,000 alumni worldwide.

Since the launch of the MAcc Programme in 1988, the School has maintained strong connections with its MAcc alumni by providing professional networking opportunities and platforms for engagement with MAcc students and other alumni, as well as with CUHK itself.  


The School’s academic faculty members have rich teaching experience and outstanding academic achievements. Many have obtained doctoral degrees and teaching experience at highly reputed universities worldwide. The School boasts a continuous output of top-quality publications in diverse research areas, with a focus on emerging markets, especially that of China. The programme’s courses are taught by our world-class faculty members, some of whom are finance and accounting professionals with abundant industry experience.

In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2017, CUHK Business School was ranked 47th worldwide and 23rd among all accounting and finance schools.

Study Mode

The MAcc Programme can be taken either full time or part time. The full-time programme takes 1 year to complete; the part-time programme takes 2 years. The programme offers students flexible course scheduling and the opportunity to take up internships without extending the normative study period.
