Graduation Requirements

 

To be conferred the Master of Science degree by The Chinese University of Hong Kong:

 

    • Students admitted in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 must complete five required courses (15 credits) and five elective courses (15 credits), with cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.50.
    • Students admitted in 2018-2019 must complete six required courses (18 credits) and four elective courses (12 credits), with cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.50.
    • A student receving a grade of "D+" or below must repeat the course or take an approved substitute course.
    • For term assessment, a student who obtains a cumulative GPA below 2.5 in the preceding term will be put on academic probation. A student fails to have probation lifted after being put on academic probation for two consecutive terms of attendance shall be required to discontinue studies.

 

Grading System


Students are assessed on the basis of their performance in course examinations and other assignments.


The grading system (2011-2012 and thereafter) is as follows:

Dean's List


Outstanding students in the top 20% and have a cumulative GPA of 3.60 or above (out of 4.00) are eligible to be on the Dean’s List. Dean’s List Certificate will be issued to students concerned; and this honor will also be recorded on the academic transcript.

Remarks: The Faculty reserves the right to make the final decision.
