Some Reflections on Human Experience in an Era of Technological Transformation

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technologies such as artificial intelligence invites renewed reflection on what makes human experience distinctive and valuable in an era of profound technological transformation. Although intelligent systems are increasingly capable of performing cognitive and routine tasks, they remain relatively limited in their ability to experience emotions, navigate complex social worlds, and exercise creative judgment in the face of uncertainty. By bringing some of my research together in this talk, I hope to initiate a broader conversation with colleagues at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) about how humans could maintain relevance and dignity by leveraging affect and agency in an age of technological transformation.
