Quantitative Edge for Vietnam’s Future
Steven Nguyen Dang-chinh (QFIN, Year 1)
Steven Nguyen Dang-chinh (QFIN, Year 1), a student from Vietnam and recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Belt and Road Scholarship, chose CUHK Business School as a foothold to embark on his journey towards realising his aspiration. In addition to acquiring the competencies needed to become a quant (quantitative analyst), Steven is motivated by a mission to contribute to his home country’s rapidly growing economy, explaining that Vietnam “demands a massive pool of people well-versed in business.” Steven believes the School’s world-class programmes, supportive staff, valuable internships and enriching on-and-off campus experiences—not to mention its extensive alumni network—will empower him to achieve these goals.
“I envision myself becoming capable of making highly informed business decisions, analysing financial data and setting technological directions,” Steven shares. “This role is increasingly important as more companies in Vietnam expand internationally. I’m excited to help improve firms’ financial health and boost their global competitiveness. To achieve this, a conducive environment for financial studies, internships and employment is crucial—Hong Kong and CUHK provide the ideal setting for these pursuits. The dynamic professional atmosphere perfectly aligns with my enthusiasm and aspirations.”
Despite being only a month into his studies, Steven’s experience at CUHK Business School is already exceeding his expectations: “I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenging yet exciting and practical courses QFIN offers. The programme is structured to provide the most up-to-date financial insights, as well as the essential skills and expertise to excel in the field. My experience on campus has not only fuelled my personal and career development but also strengthened my determination to contribute to my home country, Vietnam.”
Thai Innovator, Global Changemaker
Naphat Saptanaudom (IBBA, Year 1)
Naphat Saptanaudom (IBBA, Year 1), known affectionately as Namo, has long set her sights on earning a business degree in Hong Kong and building a successful career in the industry: “I’ve been fascinated by business for as long as I can remember. When I was considering/researching universities, CUHK Business School and the IBBA’s unique curriculum really caught my eye. The programme offers a comprehensive grounding in business, with nine concentrations for students to hone their competencies in specialised fields.”
Namo is particularly impressed by the opportunities to learn from renowned professors and entrepreneurs, the exciting job prospects for graduates, and the possibility of transferring to the Asian Business Studies or International Business and Chinese Enterprise programmes for a deeper understanding of international and regional business. All these factors, along with the Belt and Road Scholarship, cemented her decision to attend the School.
Namo views CUHK as an opportunity to undergo personal growth and make a meaningful impact on society. While preparing for a business consulting career, she intends to develop the entrepreneurial acumen and strategic insights needed to achieve her lifelong goal—founding a social enterprise focused on education inequality: “I plan to pass on the opportunities I’ve been fortunate enough to receive so that children in need back home can access quality education.”
For now, Namo is determined to embrace her experience in Hong Kong to the fullest—enjoying campus life, forging lasting friendships and soaking up the city’s vibrant culture and cuisine. She is also keen on attending international conferences to broaden her horizons and build a global network perfect for a promising future.
Malaysian Talent, Asian Synergy
Yeow King-yee (IFAA, Year 1)
Yeow King-yee (IFAA, Year 1), from Selangor, Malaysia, has listened to his parents’ discussion on their professional experiences and business strategy since childhood. This early exposure, coupled with his passion for economics, accounting and mathematics, made business studies a natural next step for him. He is particularly interested in risk management and its crucial role in maintaining enterprise stability; and he hopes to become an actuary to help companies identify, analyse and manage risk in today’s energised economic landscape.
Supported by the Belt and Road Scholarship, King-yee chose CUHK Business School and the IFAA programme to achieve his goals, selecting it over options in the UK, Australia and Malaysia. He is especially attracted to the School’s abundant resources and opportunities, strong reputation and supportive environment. “From exchange programmes to case competitions, there are a variety of distinct learning environments and a wealth of ways to connect with people from other cultures,” he says. “Plus, the professors are exceptional. Their lectures consistently deliver fresh perspectives and deeper insights to enhance our understanding and enrich our minds.”
Studying at CUHK offers King-yee a chance to broaden his horizons, gain global exposure and become a more well-rounded individual ready to kickstart a career as a certified actuary. More than that, he is confident that the international perspective will complement his multicultural background, enabling him to foster collaborations between Hong Kong and Malaysia and manifest mutually beneficial opportunities for businesses and individuals in both regions.

Eunice Leung Ying-hin (GBS, Year 1)
For top-scoring DSE student Eunice Leung Ying-hin (GBS, Year 1), enrolling in CUHK Business School serves two purposes. Naturally curious, Eunice is captivated by the way business brings together a broad spectrum of disciplines, including marketing and finance—for her, GBS is a window to a broader world. By attending CUHK, she will also be upholding family traditions by following in the footsteps of alumni family members.
“Being a business student opens doors to unlimited knowledge and helps me understand the complexity of society and the business world. While majoring in GBS, I can explore social and global phenomena and concepts. I find it thought-provoking to consider how I can contribute to the community.” Eunice recognises that studying business offers a unique advantage: “Business graduates aren’t limited to a particular sector. Instead, our future paths can be highly diverse, presenting unlimited opportunities.”
Eunice has been most impressed by how CUHK Business School provides ample opportunities for students to realise their potential and cultivate close bonds: “We regularly collaborate in workshops and competitions, which allow us to showcase our talents fully. I enjoy the team spirit and the strong bonds we forge. Teachers and classmates are always willing to offer unconditional support, enabling us to grow and thrive with confidence.”
Besides exchange programmes in North America and Europe, Eunice is looking forward to a rewarding undergraduate experience. “University life wouldn’t be complete without its ups and downs, sweat and tears. From the moment I set foot on campus on information day, I was warmly welcomed by professors and student ambassadors, knowing I’d be supported within this big family. With their encouragement and the School’s backing, I’m determined to turn every challenge into an opportunity for growth and carve my own path to success.”
