Introduction:
Invited by The Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School, Mr. Normal T.L. Chan, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Monetary Authority, delivered the opening speech at the School’s Master’s Degree Graduation Ceremony 2014-2015 on 21 November 2015.

At the graduation ceremony, Mr. Norman T.L. Chan used a vivid metaphor of postgraduates holding a train ticket for departure to start a fascinating journey. He said, “Life is full of changes and surprises and you will have to decide which train to get on, without knowing whether the particular train is the right one that can take you to the desired destination.” Chan encouraged the postgraduates to take learning as a life-long process that will continue even after graduation. “Success is a desired destination but everyone must seek to achieve goal with moral means. Be generous to those in need of help, as well as to be fully committed and have the courage to tackle challenges, adversity and changes,” he told the graduates.

In this video, Mr. Chan advised the School’s postgraduates not to confine success to materialistic gains as achieving a meaningful life is something that money alone cannot buy. Rather, they should keep reminding themselves that “Wisdom”, “Morality” and “Courage” are the keys to the destination of their journey to success. Success has to be earned no matter how they define it. A successful person is someone whose life is filled with purpose and joy, something that can be felt, shared and remembered not only by his family and loved ones but also by the people around him.
