CUHK Business School and Stanford PACS launch executive education programme on effective philanthropy

The Centre for Family Business at the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) of CUHK Business School and the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (Stanford PACS) have launched “Essentials of Effective Philanthropy”—Hong Kong’s first business school executive education programme dedicated to philanthropy planning.

The launch event brought together distinguished philanthropic and impact investment leaders from across Asia and beyond. It underscored philanthropy as an investment in the future and highlighted the programme’s innovative approach to bridging gaps across continents, sectors, and disciplines.

Professor Kevin Au Yuk-fei, director of Centre for Family Business at CUHK Business School, welcomed guests, stating, “This partnership with Stanford PACS perfectly captures our commitment to a global perspective. We’re starting small but with purpose—helping Hong Kong become Asia’s philanthropic hub.”

Representatives from Stanford PACS, Priya Shanker and Vera Michalchik, shared the vision behind the collaboration. “There’s a significant gap between what wealth holders want to achieve with their resources and the advice they receive,” noted Priya Shanker, Executive Director of Stanford PACS. “Advisors often lack confidence in guiding philanthropic decisions—this is precisely what our programme addresses. We work not only with high-net-worth individuals and their organisations but also with their advisors across legal, financial, and other disciplines.”

Commencing in December, the programme will provide intensive and practical learning experiences for executives, wealth managers, family office professionals, and social innovators who wish to maximise their philanthropic impact and strengthen their legacy of social purpose.

Registration for the December programme is now open. For more information, please contact apib@cuhk.edu.hk.
