CUHK MScITM students decode Silicon Valley’s disruptive DNA

This July, 25 students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School’s Master of Science in Information and Technology Management embarked on an enriching study trip to Silicon Valley, the global epicentre of technology and innovation. Led by Professor Dominic Chan, the week-long immersion blended academic rigour, industry exposure, and direct access to Silicon Valley’s innovators, equipping students with cutting-edge insights into technology leadership and disruptive business strategies.

The tour featured special lectures at Stanford University and San Jose State University, where students delved into Silicon Valley’s innovation frameworks and Blue Ocean Strategy, gaining inspiring insights into disruptive technology paradigms. Visits to industry pioneers—Google, Tesla, NetApp, and Plug and Play—provided students with firsthand exposure to cutting-edge technologies and transformative business practices on a global scale.

During the trip, two thoughtfully curated networking sessions gave students unique access to Silicon Valley’s innovation heartbeat. At an event hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in San Francisco, students engaged with members of FoundersHK, a leading Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial network. A fireside chat with Professor Alvin Cheung from the University of California, Berkeley, and Ms Edith Yeung of Race Capital explored AI’s frontier, sparking dynamic discussions among participants.

A second session, organised with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP), connected students with founders of three startups incubated by HKSTP. The founders shared the journey of scaling their business from Hong Kong to Silicon Valley, offering practical insights into navigating different innovation ecosystems.
