The annual dinner hosted by the CUHK Beijing-Tianjin Alumni Association was another great success! The event was held at the Grand Millennium Beijing Hotel on Saturday, 26 March, and was attended by over 120 alumni of CUHK residing in Beijing, Tianjin and other parts of Mainland China. VIP guests that flew in from Hong Kong included Mr. Anthony Yuen, a Standing Committee member of the CUHK Convocation, Mr. Daniel Cheng, Director of the CUHK Alumni Affairs Office, and Ms. Florence Lai, Administrative Director of CUHK Business School’s Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office.

The event kicked off with a video clip from Prof. Joseph Sung, CUHK Vice-Chancellor. Not only did he deliver his best wishes for the new year to the alumni of Beijing and Tianjin, he also updated everyone on the university’s latest developments. Mr. Yuen followed with welcoming remarks on behalf of CUHK. Their warm and encouraging words served to connect alumni across all distances, even though they live far away from their alma mater.

During the course of the sumptuous dinner buffet, a hi-tech lucky draw was held, with 30 winners instantly determined online, adding a fun touch to the event. The main focus of the evening was a performance by business alumnus Mr. Steve Lau and his band. A 1988 BBA graduate, Steve was named one of the ‘Top Angel Investors in China in 2015’,and was the only person from Hong Kong to receive this honour. During the 15-minute performance, he proved that his skills are not limited to business — he is a talented singer as well! The splendid performance was the highlight of the evening and elicited enthusiastic applause. Finally, the evening concluded with a group photo filled with cheery faces, capturing unforgettable memories from the event.

“The annual gathering is a delightful opportunity, allowing me to meet with so many alumni in Beijing. I was really touched by their enthusiasm for maintaining close ties with their alma mater,” said Ms. Lai. “On behalf of the Business School, I would like to extend our gratitude particularly to the Organising Committee led by Derek Ho, President of the CUHK Beijing-Tianjin Alumni Association, for making the event a fantastic success, enjoyed by all.”
