Faculty Members Reward for Their Teaching and Research Excellence

Three faculty members/student from the Business School were awarded for their outstanding teaching performance, research output and contribution to the school at the 83rd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held its 83rd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees on 16 November 2017. Three faculty members/student from CUHK Business School were awarded for their outstanding teaching performance, research output and contribution to the school.

Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2016

The Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award Scheme was launched in 1999 to recognise outstanding teachers. Every year, each Faculty can nominate at least one teacher with excellent teaching performance in the eyes of students, as well as other teaching staff.

Mr. Eric Y.W. Leung

Mr. Eric Y.W. Leung

Mr. Eric Leung started teaching at School of Accountancy since August 2009. He obtained his bachelor degree at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a master degree at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Prior to joining CUHK Business School, he worked as an external auditor in one of the international professional accounting firms and an internal auditor in multinational companies. He also took up a compliance role in one of the regulatory bodies in Hong Kong. Mr. Leung teaches financial reporting, auditing and finance courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He serves in several committees within the CUHK Business School for curriculum development, accreditation and student counselling. He also contributes to the examination and certification processes for professional bodies and the review of financial statements for regulatory organisations.

“When I was notified that I was going to receive this award, I got a short reflection on what I have been doing since I joined this teaching role in The Chinese University of Hong Kong. During my eight-year teaching journey, I am lucky to meet a lot of people including students, colleagues and supervisors. I would like to express my greatest gratitude to my colleagues in the School of Accountancy and in CUHK Business School for their full support at all times. I would also like to extend such thankfulness to all my students. Their appreciation as well as criticism urged me to improve myself progressively. I hope my students can also continuously train themselves up as good problem solvers who can think critically and independently in their lifelong learning journey.”

Young Researcher Award 2016

In order to recognise research accomplishments of young faculty, the University established the Young Researcher Award in 2002. One young faculty with the best research output will be nominated by the Dean of each Faculty every year.

Prof. Donghui Wu holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in accountancy from Xiamen University, and a Ph.D. in Accountancy from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) of P.R. China. He is currently an Associate Professor at CUHK Business School and the Associate Director of Centre for Institutions and Governance of the CUHK. Prior to joining CUHK, Prof. Wu has taught at Lingnan University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His main research interest is in accounting, auditing, and finance institutions in China. He has published refereed articles in leading academic journals such as Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, and The Accounting Review. He is currently associate editor of China Journal of Accounting Research.

“It is truly a great honour for me to receive the Young Researcher Award 2016. As a Ph.D. graduate from CUHK, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my supervisors and other professors during my study at CUHK. Their inspiration and valuable advice have helped me set my research strategy, which is now paying off handsomely. I also thank the Faculty and the School of Accountancy for providing generous research supports over the years since I joined CUHK. The award certainly encourages me to work harder and produce research that can contribute to the academic world and influence the business practices.”

Postgraduate Research Output Award 2016

To encourage quality research, the University established the Postgraduate Research Output Award in 2002. One postgraduate student per faculty will be nominated by the Dean every year.

Mr. Si Kao is generally interested in the study of judgment and decision making. His research focuses on people’s decisions and judgments in interpersonal and organisational contexts. Mr. Si also studies consumer behaviour.

“It is a great honour for me to receive this award. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to my advisor Professor Xianchi Dai for his guidance and nurturance as I started my career in research, and also to Professor Bob Wyer for being such a great and patient mentor not only for me, but also for all the students in our department. I also want to thank for the supports from other professors and colleagues of mine along the way during my Ph.D. study. Conducting meaningful and high-quality research is a life-long endeavour for me and this award is witness to my initial progress towards that goal. I sincerely hope that I can add to the credits of this award by continuing to generate high-impact research in my future career.”
