Professor Robert Li Inaugurated as the Fung King Hey Memorial Professor of Tourism Management

Professor Robert Li Xiang, the Fung King Hey Memorial Professor of Tourism Management and director of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School, delivered his inaugural lecture on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr Tony Fung, the generous donor of the professorship established in memory of his late father, Mr Fung King Hey. This gift continues the Fung family’s legacy of significant contributions to CUHK.

In his vote of thanks, Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President, expressed deep gratitude to Mr Fung and his family. He highlighted the connection dating back to the late 1970s, crediting the late Mr Fung senior with playing a pivotal role in the early success of the CUHK MBA programme. He also commended Mr Tony Fung for his steadfast philanthropic spirit and continued support of the university’s development.

In his lecture, Professor Robert Li reflected on his journey from a destination marketer in Nanjing to a “bridge-builder” in academia. He emphasised the value of a multi-faceted career, which combines rigorous research with engaged scholarship, innovative teaching, and leadership roles within the industry. He concluded by expressing deep gratitude to his students, mentors, and his family.
