Zhang, James Zhao-hui(張朝暉)

Biography

Dr James Zhang holds the positions of Adjunct Associate Professor of Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Adjunct Associate Professor of Finance at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and Associate Professor of Science Practice at HKUST. With extensive experience as an entrepreneur and investor in both the United States and Greater China, Dr Zhang currently serves as an Advisor to the Chairman and former Chief Investment Officer of Great Eagle Holdings. Additionally, he is a Partner at VU Venture Partners and a Venture Partner of the GRC Fund.

Previously, Dr Zhang was a co-founder and partner of Formation 8, a venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley with several billion dollars under management and an early investor in unicorns such as Oculus VR, Wish.com, Oscar Health, OpenGov, and Blend Labs. Before co-founding Formation 8, Dr Zhang held the position of Venture Partner at Softbank China Venture Capital and at Khosla Ventures, two of the most esteemed venture capital firms in Greater China and the United States, respectively.

As a biotechnologist, Dr Zhang has also co-founded several biotechnology companies both in China and the US. He has also made notable investments in LanzaTech and Rancher Labs.

Tsui (Sairojpand), Elsie(徐苑思)

Biography

Elsie possesses extensive experience as both a corporate executive and management consultant. Before establishing her consulting firm, she worked at the Asia office of !What If? Innovation in Shanghai, a leading innovation consultancy part of Accenture. Specialising in innovation management, capability building through design thinking, and organisational transformation strategy, she has led impactful training workshops for leaders from Fortune 500 companies across Europe and Asia. Her corporate training clients include Pfizer, Pernod Ricard, Johnson & Johnson, and IKEA.

Prior to her consulting career, Elsie served as the Deputy Head of Public Affairs & Communications at Coca-Cola China. She led a cross-regional team of 14, covering Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China, and was involved in Coca-Cola’s global Olympics activations. She also established the PAC Institute, an in-house training and mentoring program for her team and business partners.

Combining practical experience in innovation with her doctoral research in social entrepreneurship, Elsie led the Social Innovation Unit at the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services at CUHK from 2020 to 2024. She is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Management and Honorary Project Director for the Center for Entrepreneurship at CUHK Business School.

Elsie graduated with first-class honors in Sociology, minoring in Journalism & Communications, from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She holds an MBA from the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK, and earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Grenoble School of Management, focusing on social enterprise collaboration and learning networks in Hong Kong.

Born in Thailand and raised in Hong Kong, Elsie has worked in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and London. She is fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Thai, and is an EFFAS Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA).

Chen, Yue(陳悅)

Biography

Professor Yue Chen is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Her research interests lie broadly in the interplay between financial information and non-financial factors, such as business models, human capital, and innovation. She received her PhD and MPhil degrees from Columbia Business School, and MSc as well as BSc from University of Mannheim.

Lee, Myunghwan(李明煥)

Biography

Professor Lee is an Assistant Professor from the Department of Decisions, Operations and Technology (DOT) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School. His research seeks to understand the opportunities and challenges regarding AI in the business innovation context. Before joining CUHK, he received his Ph.D. from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and his B.A. and M.S. from Yonsei University in Seoul.

Ng, Angel Yin-yee(伍燕儀)

Biography

Angel Ng was appointed Head of Asia North and Australia, Cluster and Banking in September 2023. Angel has oversight of Citi’s franchise in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand and Taiwan, including geographic management, client coverage and delivery, and legal entity management. The Head of Cluster and Banking has oversight of products and banking segments and drives local client engagement across all lines of business.

As a leading financial institution, Citi brings the unique strength of its unparalleled global network and on-the-ground expertise to its Banking, Markets, Services, and Wealth businesses. The Asia North and Australia Cluster is a key growth area for Citi internationally, having been in the region since 1902. Angel, who is based in Hong Kong, is focused on creating greater connectivity across the bank to deliver the full power of Citi to our clients.

Prior to this, Angel was the Head of Asia for Citi Global Wealth from April 2022, with the responsibility of the wealth business in the region which includes Asia Private Bank and Consumer Banking. Before that, Angel was the Chief Executive Officer for Hong Kong and Macau from May 2018.

Angel joined Citi Hong Kong in 1998 and served as Head of Retail Banking, Head of Wealth Management and Head of Cards before being appointed Consumer Business Manager for Hong Kong in 2015, where she led the digital transformation of the business. Her knowledge and understanding of the wealth and institutional sides of the bank have helped built a winning franchise for Citi. She is also a strong advocate of diversity and inclusion.

Prior to Citi, Angel held a number of senior positions at Procter & Gamble and China Light and Power Hong Kong. She started her career with HSBC.

Angel actively contributes to the Hong Kong community by serving as a board or committee member of several organisations including the Financial Infrastructure and Market Development Sub-Committee under the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Banking Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, Council of the Treasury Markets Association, and Board of Trustee for the Chinese University of Hong Kong Chung Chi College.

Angel holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tseng, Kevin(曾俊凱)

Biography

Professor Kevin Tseng is an Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School. He previously taught at the National Taiwan University (NTU) as the EMBA Alumni Elite Chair and the Chen-Yung Outstanding Scholar. Before joining NTU, he was a Financial Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas’ School of Business.

Professor Tseng has a broad research interest. He has published in the areas of knowledge spillover, asset pricing, disclosure, innovation, corporate finance, and behavioral economics. His articles have appeared in leading scholarly journals, including The Journal of Finance, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Review of Financial Studies, The Accounting Review, Management Science, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Contemporary Accounting Research, and the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy. In 2022, he received the MOST Outstanding Research Award; in 2015, he received the WFA Cubist Systematic Strategies PhD Candidate Award for Outstanding Research.

Ma, Xufei(馬旭飛)

Biography

Prof. Xufei Ma is a tenured full professor at the Department of Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Before he returned to CUHK Business School, he was the Terry Gou Chair Professor and a tenured full professor (2020-2022) of the School of Economics and Management (SEM) and Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS) at Tsinghua University. He was also a Cheung Kong Chair Professor granted by the Ministry of Education, China. He received a bachelor’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University (China), an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), and a Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore. He was an assistant professor (2007-2013) and then a tenured associate professor (2013-2018) at CUHK, and a tenured full professor (2018-2020) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He also served as the director of CUHK’s Center for Entrepreneurship (2016-2018) and CUHK’s Center for International Business Studies (2018), and the Vice Chair of the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy at Tsinghua SEM (2020-2022). He’s taught strategy courses for EMBA programmes (in both English and Chinese) at Tsinghua, CityU, and CUHK.

Prof. Ma’s research focuses on strategic management, international business, and innovation/entrepreneurship in China’s emerging economy. He has published papers in UTD and FT-listed journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, and Journal of Business Venturing, among others. He received the Haynes Prize for the Most Promising Scholar from the Academy of International Business; became the first Chinese Dunning Fellow at the John H. Dunning Center for International Business, UK; and was awarded the Journal of International Business Studies 50th Anniversary Silver Medal. He is an Area Editor for the Journal of International Business Studies (2023-2025).

Before Prof. Ma joined academia, he had worked for a leading central-level Chinese business group in Beijing and Shanghai. He has served as an independent director for Western Trust, Tu Ba Tu Group, and Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group. He’s the co-secretary-general and co-chairman (2024) of Chinese Management Model C50+ Forum, and the co-founder and co-chairman of Greater Bay Area Senior Management Scholars College.

Fong, Alex(方志偉)

Biography

Dr. Fong is a scholar-practitioner. He is a believer in life-long learning. He has continued to pursue scholastic research and teaching activities alongside his career pursuits.

As a practitioner, Dr. Fong has worked in many different senior managerial capacities in both private and public sectors. As an entrepreneur, he is a Director of GRE Manufacturing Limited and GRE Alpha Electronics Limited, two privately owned electronics manufacturing companies. As an intrapreneur, he was the former CEO of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the former Directorate Officer of the Hong Kong government. As a practitioner in corporate governance, he is an independent non-executive director of Hutchison Port Holdings Limited, Hong Kong Electric Investment Limited and Tom Group International Limited.

As a scholar, Dr. Fong’s scholastic journey covers both empirical science and humanistic studies. In his DBA research, he developed a 2P3C Model to understand the sustainability of corporate human capital competitiveness. In his PhD research, he created a set of tools comprising differentiators, integrators, and connectors to help us understand the patterns of self–others interaction experience among stakeholders in enterprises. They can be deployed by CEOs to support oneness as an enterprise governance approach focusing on responsible leadership, enterprise well-being, and enterprise sustainability.

Having worked, studied, and lived in multiple places like New York City, Tokyo, London, Cambridge, Oxford, Beijing, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong and Singapore, he looks forward to tapping into his broad intellectual, sectoral and geographic experience to create an encounter of a different kind as he pursues his teaching and research activities at CUHK Business School.

Dr. Fong is also a coach and a counsellor.

Karhade, Prasanna

Biography

Prof. Prasanna Karhade joined the CUHK Business School as an Associate Professor in the Department of Decisions, Operations and Technology in August 2022.

Prof. Karhade is interested in digital innovation, design thinking and entrepreneurship. His research has been published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Journal of Management Information Systems.

He has currently started an ambitious research programme on micro-financing in GREAT (growing, rural, eastern, aspirational, and transitional) economies. Prof. Karhade loves hiking, poetry & meditation. Prasanna means happiness and so there is no incorrect way to pronounce Prasanna — as long as you do it with a smile.
