In 2010, Professor Paul Beamish established “The 39 Country Initiative”. It allows universities in the world’s 39 poorest countries to use Ivey cases at no cost, and facilitates container load shipments of educational material to university libraries there (see http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/engaging/39-country-initiative/). Over 2,000 faculty members in the eligible countries are now using the cases. In addition over 20 collection nodes for books have been established and 5 container shipments have been made. But much more is needed . He will review the progress to date of the 39 Country Initiative, and will discuss possible ways for business schools in advanced economies to engage more actively in the Initiative.
Paul Beamish is Director of the International Business Institute at the Ivey Business School, Western University, London, Canada. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Business Studies from 1993-97 and is a past Dean of the Fellows of the Academy of International Business . For nearly two decades he has played major roles in the growth of Ivey Publishing, now the world’s second largest producer and distributor of business school teaching cases. He is the author or co-author of 59 books and 138 refereed articles (with over 32,000 Google Scholar citations) and 143 case studies, primarily in the international management area. Over 100 of his cases have been translated into one or more languages, and over 3 million copies of his cases have been studied worldwide. The Academy of Management has recognized him with both the PWC Eminent Scholar in International Management Award (2017) and International Management Outstanding Educator Award (2012).
