Future of Digital Currency: Combining the public availability of cryptocurrency and legal authority of Central Bank Digital Currency

The past decade saw the emergence of two very different approaches towards the evolution of the fundamental concept of money that has been with human society since its dawn. Most people are familiar with cryptocurrency due to its popularity and accessibility, on top of its extreme speculative and spectacular success stories. On the other hand, people regard Central Bank Digital Currency as the passive response to the emergence of cryptocurrency, an effort to get rid of the “dictatorial” control of traditional money by the Central Banks and other government regulations. This talk will provide an alternative view of the origin of Central Bank Digital Currency, and with it, a new look towards what the future of digital currency should look like.
