The Uygur and Han’s Competition—A Closer Examination of the Effect of the Belt and Road Initiative for different racial firms in China

Research Interest
Abstract: China’s recent national initiative known as “the Belt and the Road” (B&R) has provided great incentives for Chinese firms to speed up the pace of internationalization. Yet, very few international business (IB) studies have been found to deal with the policy-related performances of the firms in such a dramatic institutional change. This study is among the first to study their internationalization processes using two types of Chinese racial (i.e., Uygur’s and Han’s) firms in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China under the context of B&R initiative. We propose that, referring to the cultural friction model, the Uygur’s firms should perform worse than the Han’s counterparties and both of them are encountering worse outputs in international businesses targeting to the Belt regional markets.
