Mixing Magic with Management Consulting In Hong Kong

Trained magician, businesswoman and current MBA student Rajani Nair shared with BusinessBecause.com the deciding factors of pursuing an MBA at CUHK Business School…

Current MBA student Rajani Nair is a woman of many talents. Nair is a trained magician in India who performed conjuring tricks and illusions over 20 stage performances and on live TV. She is also a celebrated artist with her watercolor paintings recognised nationally and winning over 250 prizes in state and district level competitions.

At Indian car-manufacturing giant Tata Motors, she led a team of engineers and drove technological development, and secured a patent for one of her innovations. After five years at Tata Motors, she felt the need to broaden her horizons, gain global exposure and business knowledge as her career was taking a turn into a managerial role. Nair found Hong Kong particularly interesting for its significance as the trade gateway to China.

“The open and welcoming culture of Hong Kong has been very helpful. In India, it’s hard to conceive the idea of meeting up with unknown people in your field, sharing your ideas and learning from their experiences, but it’s quite normal to do so in Hong Kong,” Nair adds.

Determined to take her career to the global stage, Nair relocated to Hong Kong to pursue her MBA, receiving 50 percent off her tuition fee from CUHK Business School’s Women in Business Scholarship for all high-potential female business leaders.

When sharing the decision to pursue an MBA at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School, Nair said, “CUHK Business School stands out because of its reputation, ranking and the generous scholarships on offer. And the friendly admissions staff supported me throughout the application process. The programme met all my expectations and so I went for it.”

Nair founded the 60-strong consulting club during her study at CUHK Business School and she plans to go into management consulting in Asia after graduation next year. According to the School’s Employment Report on full-time MBA graduates in 2015, 96 percent of CUHK MBA graduates are employed within three months of graduation, 87 percent within Asia. And CUHK’s top consulting employers include McKinsey, Bain & Co, Accenture and more… Read More
