CUHK Business School establishes the “Bonnie H Chan Accountancy Scholarship”

CUHK Business School is pleased to announce the establishment of the “Bonnie H Chan Accountancy Scholarship”, made possible by the generous donation of alumna Bonnie Chan (PACC 1993). Commencing in the 2025/26 academic year, the scholarship will be awarded to outstanding local undergraduate students majoring in Professional Accountancy.
In addition to the financial award, Bonnie will personally offer one-on-one coaching sessions to the scholarship recipients, providing guidance on career planning and professional development.
Professor Zhou Lin, dean of CUHK Business School, expressed his sincere gratitude for Bonnie’s generosity: “Bonnie’s dedication to supporting younger generations at CUHK Business School is truly admirable. Her gift will undoubtedly inspire the School to continue nurturing future leaders who will make meaningful contributions to society.“
Professor George Yong Yang, director of the School of Accountancy, lauded Bonnie’s devotion to talent development. “Bonnie not only provides financial support to outstanding students through this scholarship, but also shares her personal journey to help them strive for academic and professional excellence. Her selfless commitment is truly worthy of our admiration and emulation.”
A graduate of CUHK’s Professional Accountancy programme in 1993, Bonnie made the bold decision to turn down offers from the then “Big Six” accounting firms. Driven by an unrelenting passion for knowledge, she pursued a master’s degree in financial accounting and auditing in the United States. Her academic journey continued, and in 2008, she earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Throughout her illustrious career, Bonnie has held several senior leadership positions, including Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at renowned international brands. At the height of her career, she was responsible for overseeing business operations generating over US$2 billion in revenue, while leading and managing teams of more than 200 professionals.
In a past interview, Bonnie fondly described this painting gifted by a classmate as a cherished reminder of the warm bonds she formed at CUHK. Beyond her professional pursuits, Bonnie is also deeply committed to philanthropy. She served as a board member for several nonprofit organisations supporting domestic violence prevention, heart health, youth development, and tertiary education. Additionally, she was a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Global Alumni Advisory Board at CUHK from 2020 to 2022, exemplifying her dedication to giving back to both society and her alma mater.
Over the past few decades, CUHK Business School has been privileged to have dedicated alumni contributing to its growth and development. Their support not only allows us to strive for excellence in business education and transformative research on local, regional, and global scales, but also creates lasting value and impact within the CUHK Business School community.
