The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School expresses its deepest sympathy on the passing away of Dr. Cheng Yu-tung, former chairman of Advisory Board of its MBA Programs.

Dr. Cheng is the founder and honorary chairman of New World Development Group. Being an innovative and visionary entrepreneur, he has established one of Hong Kong’s largest conglomerates spanning jewellery, real estate, hotels, infrastructure and telecommunications.

Dr. Cheng was conferred the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa, by CUHK in 1993. He was a strong supporter of CUHK for many years, including the founding of Hong Kong’s first 3-year part-time MBA program in 1977. As Chairman of Advisory Board of the CUHK MBA Programs for a long period of time, Dr. Cheng has helped to steer the development of the School and its programs. Dr. Cheng was among one of the key donors supporting the MBA Town Centre’s establishment in 1983. In 2011, Dr. Cheng’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy was once again reflected by his tremendous support to the School’s Teaching Hotel Project. The project comprises Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin and the teaching building named Cheng Yu Tung Building, providing state-of-the-art facilities for internship, teaching and research for CUHK Business School and its School of Hotel and Tourism Management, as well as research institutes at CUHK.
