CUHK Business School mourns the passing of Professor Kenneth Law

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Professor Kenneth Law, Chairman of the Department of Management, on 3 December 2024.

A proud alumnus of CUHK Business School, Professor Law graduated in 1983 with a major in Management and a minor in Marketing before earning his PhD from The University of Iowa. With over 30 years dedicated to research and education in management, Professor Law made significant contributions to organisation behaviour, human resource management, and management in Chinese context. His work spanned team management, corporate leadership, and social governance, reflecting his passion for exploring the interconnected roles and responsibilities of individuals, corporations, and society.

Integrity and ethics were at the heart of Professor Law’s teaching, profoundly influenced by his mentor, Professor Lo Wai-luen. Immersed in CUHK’s open and stimulating environment, Professor Law thrived on thought-provoking discussions and deep reflections that shaped his values and approach to education. His commitment to whole-person development inspired countless students, empowering them to cultivate vision and sound judgment to navigate the evolving business landscape.

Since the 1990s, Professor Law was a staunch advocate for scientific management research and business ethics in mainland China. His scholarly contributions included numerous articles in leading research journals, such as Academy of Management ReviewJournal of Applied PsychologyJournal of International Business and Journal of Management. He also served as associate editor of the Academy of Management Journal and as a senior editor for the Management and Organization Review, playing a vital role in the academic community.

Before returning to CUHK Business School in 2006, Professor Law spent 16 years at the Australian Graduate School of Management and the School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Professor Law will be dearly missed. His unwavering commitment to integrity, value education and people development, has left an indelible mark, inspiring future generations to carry on his legacy.
