Outperforming other 18 finalist teams from top business schools around the world, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School team seized the championship of Peak Time 2016 organised by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga), Latvia, during 15 – 17 April 2016. This is the second time CUHK Business School has won this competition.

Peak Time is one of the largest international student business competitions organised yearly by SSE Riga since 1999. This year’s competition attracted more than 1,000 applications from over 230 institutions and 60 countries spreading all five continents.

The winning team consists of four undergraduate students including Eric Yiu Ho-kui (Year 3) of Professional Accountancy Program (Global Accounting Stream), Serena Shing King-wa (Year 3) of Integrated Bachelor of Business Administration Program, Renne Leung (Year 3) of Quantitative Finance Program, and Henry Lin-hao (Year 2) of Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science Program.

The team went through the preliminary round of online business simulation where participants had to operate a production company in a competitive market and played against other teams in the assigned group. The winners then entered the second and final rounds of case study in Riga, Latvia.

“It was a bit intense in the final round. We had to study the case, come up with a strategic plan and prepare for a presentation in 4 hours,” said Eric.

The trip to Riga was not just a tough competition for Eric, it was also a good time for networking and exploring exotic culture. “The Peak Time organising team held a series of cultural events and parties to let us meet students from different universities. Our team also travelled around Riga, the capital city with traditional buildings and fascinating scenery.” Eric added.

In addition, another team consisting of three first-year students from Global Business Studies (GBS): Reagan Wu, Jackie Chan and Bruce Chu won the first runner-up in the global finals of Peak Time 2016. In 2013, the CUHK Business School made history when its student team became the first Hong Kong team winning the competition. The Peak Time 2013 champion team included five GBS students: Alan Yip (batch 6), Alex Cheung (batch 9), Christie Leung (batch 8), Eric Fong (batch 6) and Boris Ng (batch 6).
