To mark the 50th anniversary of its internationally respected MBA programmes, CUHK Business School organised a special conference on 9 September 2016 bringing together senior executives, academics, government officials and alumni to share their insights and perspectives. Focusing on the topic of “China Business in the Global Economy”, it was a chance to discuss the opportunities and challenges and consider what the next few years may hold.

Featuring a high-profile line-up of keynote speakers and panelists, the conference drew more than 500 audiences who heard about latest trends and innovations in China’s emerging industries plus the broader challenges faced by a country still in transition.

After noting that some 6,600 students from more than 40 countries have graduated from CUHK MBA over the last 50 years in his keynote speech, Hong Kong Financial Secretary John C Tsang highlighted the significance of Hong Kong’s participation in the recent G20 summit in Hangzhou as part of the China delegation. He expressed his confidence in Hong Kong’s advantages and its ability to seize opportunities arising from the growth and development of the mainland economy. By making good use of Hong Kong’s strengths in finance, trade and logistics, as well as its skills in project management and high-end professional services, it should be possible to become a key hub for many aspects of the visionary Belt and Road Initiative.

Stephanie Villemagne, Associate Dean (Graduate Programmes) and Director of MBA programmes at CUHK Business School concluded that the breadth and depth of the conference had offered an intensive learning and hoped it had given all attendees plenty to think about.
