On 20 July 2017, nearly 60 alumni and faculty members met at the Carlton Hotel’s Joji Bar for the first alumni gathering organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office in Singapore. The event was hosted by Prof. Angela Ng, Associate Dean of Global Engagement and External Relations, who led a delegation which included Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director; Mr. Roger Shew, Marketing and Communications Director; Mr. Edmond Siu, Senior PR and Communications Manager; Ms. Louisa Kwong, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Manager and Ms. Mandy Ng, Assistant Manager of the Global Engagement Office.

The overwhelming number of people in attendance thrilled Ms. Florence Lai. In her opening remarks, she thanked the alumni for supporting the Business School, saying, “It is great meeting Singapore alumni at this first-ever cocktail party, which provides a great opportunity for alumni and faculty to connect. We will definitely organise more events like this in the future.”

Prof. Angela Ng, who has been with the Business School for ten months, was excited to share its new initiatives and five-year strategic plan, which includes several important developments:

  • The September launch of the five-year, dual degree BBA-JD programme, co-organised by the Business School and Faculty of Law
  • The new “flex” mode of learning for part-time MBA students with a blend of 50/50 face-to-face and online instruction
  • The introduction of a new pre-experience Master in Management programme in 2018 for recent graduates

She also shared the vision of the new Global Engagement Office. Moving forward, she said the Business School would be kept busy by the new programmes and initiatives, making alumni support all the more important. Lastly, Prof. Ng expressed her gratitude to Mr. Justin Lau, the Alumni Ambassador in Singapore. “Justin is a committed alumnus and I look forward to building a stronger alumni network in Singapore, backed by the support you give him.”

The cocktail party was a great success and ended with a happy group photo! Currently, there are nearly 200 Business School alumni in Singapore. “Alumni are our biggest asset. We will work even harder to better engage with you and look forward to seeing you again in Singapore or in Hong Kong,” added Ms. Lai.
