MBA alumnus Job Watcharaumnuay shares with BusinessBecause.com why he traveled from New York to Hong Kong for an MBA at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School, and he hopes to eventually pursue an entrepreneurial venture.
Previously based in the New York City, Watcharaumnuay initially went there for an investment banking internship before entering into the entertainment sector and starred in a Super Bowl advert for Unilever brand AXE in 2014. However, this did not satisfy his thirst for knowledge and growth, and thus he joined CUHK, one of the best geographically situated schools in Asia for an MBA with a focus in finance.
“CUHK [Business School] has the biggest range of alumni of all the [business] schools in Hong Kong and that gives me a huge advantage when it comes to entrepreneurship, which I eventually want to pursue,” Watcharaumnuay shares with BusinessBecause.com in an interview. “I was hoping to start my own business post meeting entrepreneurial classmates with work experience like myself.”
Watcharaumnuay thinks Hong Kong is a great place to attend business school saying that “not only is Hong Kong the center of finance, but it is also the gateway to Greater China and several other countries.” He adds that “as a Thai person, Hong Kong is almost as unique as it is hard to penetrate — it drove me to challenge myself to succeed in this highly competitive yet prosperous and educational landscape. CUHK is a grand platform.”
Last year, Watcharaumnuay served for a year as president of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee made up of 25 MBA students, also in Hong Kong, collaborating with companies including KPMG. “CSR can only yield benefits if done truly from the heart,” he says. “Why companies should do CSR is to ensure a healthy, sustainable future for the company.
