How do you get along with the Millennials in your office? Also known as Generation Y or the Net Generation, Millennials have emerged as an influential group and a key factor in driving a company’s development. To cultivate a positive, friendly work environment, fully understanding Millennials and ensuring they experience job satisfaction is essential.

The Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office organised a professional workshop, ‘Creating a Culture that Engages and Retains Millennials’, on 7 March at CUHK Business School Town Centre. Mr. Mark Cosgrove, Director of Training at Dale Carnegie Hong Kong, conducted the event and focused on learning to engage, nurture and retain Millennials while understanding their values. Mr. Cosgrove pointed out that strong leadership encourages employees to commit emotionally and intellectually, ensuring excellent performance. “Ultimately, a healthy work-life balance is highly valued by Millennials nowadays,” he said.

Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, was pleased with the positive feedback the workshop received. One alumna, who works for a consulting firm, said, “The trainer gave me the knowledge and skills needed to motivate Millennials in my company while gaining their trust.” An alumnus from the IT sector said, “Learning the dos and don’ts of getting along with Millennials has been helpful to me as both the boss of a company and the father of two kids.”

“I am thankful our alumni have supported this professional workshop series. In the future, we will organise more useful gatherings to assist our alumni’s personal and professional advancement,” said Ms. Lai.
