The First-ever Alumni Cocktail in Shanghai Strengthens Bonds

On 25 August, more than 120 alumni and faculty members gathered for the first alumni networking event in Shanghai, with connections being made and strengthened against the backdrop of dramatic Shanghai skylines and Huangpu River.

Heavy rain didn’t dampen the mood of the first alumni networking event in Shanghai! On the evening of 25 August 2017, more than 120 alumni and faculty members gathered on the 86th floor of the Park Hyatt Shanghai for this event, co-organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School Shanghai Alumni Association.

Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan welcomed everyone, saying, “I’m very happy to meet alumni in Shanghai, some of whom have even flown in from neighbouring cities to be here. Thank you for coming despite the storm. Alumni are our greatest asset. Your continued support is crucial to the development of the Business School, globally and regionally.”

Prof. Chan also thanked Mr. Remy Chan and Ms. Susanna Chiu, the President and Council Member of the Shanghai Alumni Association respectively, for making the event happen. Remy responded by saying, “The alumni community here is a strongly knit one, almost as close as family, friends and colleagues. We welcome you to connect with us on WeChat and join our events to build a lasting network.”

The evening was a memorable one, with connections being made and strengthened against the backdrop of dramatic Shanghai skylines and Huangpu River. To conclude, Prof. Kalok Chan stood up and led a toast along with his delegation from Hong Kong, and everyone cheered for a group photo.

Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, was impressed by the unity and team spirit of alumni in Shanghai. She said it was touching to witness a sense of pride in those who felt part of the Business School family. “I’m happy to welcome a full house of guests tonight. In the future, we will work even harder to build long-lasting relationships with our alumni all over the world,” she added.
