800+ Freshmen Embark on a New Chapter at CUHK Business School

On 4 September 2017, Prof. Kalok Chan, Mr. Weber Lo and Prof. Andy Wong shared their experiences with the freshmen at the Inauguration Ceremony for Undergraduates.

On 4 September 2017, an inauguration ceremony was held for over 800 undergraduates to embrace a new chapter at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School.

The ceremony began with the welcome remarks by Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of CUHK Business School and Wei Lun Professor of Finance. He encouraged all freshmen to be innovative individuals who extend their learning beyond the classroom, adopt a global perspective, cultivate a socially responsible mindset, and make full use of Hong Kong’s geographical advantage as part of the Pearl River Delta.

During the ceremony, Mr. Weber Lo, Citi Country Officer & Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong & Macau, was awarded the CUHK Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree of 2017. In his keynote speech, he shared his seven “A.W.E.S.O.M.E.” habits – Attitude, Will, Energy, Strategy, Ownership, Motion, and Experience – for students to be successful in their upcoming adventures. “It’s not what happens to you that matters the most. It’s what you do to it that matters the most,” he added.

Prof. Andy Wong, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) and Associate Professor of Practice in Marketing at CUHK Business School, spoke on the topic of “Who are you?” and concluded the ceremony by motivating students to be thinkers, dreamers and winners.”The secret to realising your dreams and winning is here: you must work hard,” said Prof. Wong,“You might not have it now, but you will have it soon if you work hard enough.”
