CUHK MiM Capstone Project revitalises tourism in Okayama, Japan

The Master of Science in Management (MiM) Programme at CUHK Business School recently concluded its Capstone Consultancy Project in collaboration with the Department of Industry & Labor, Okayama Prefecture Government (DILOPG). This year’s project challenged students to develop innovative strategies to unlock Okayama’s tourism potential, blending academic rigour with real-world consulting experience.

Preparing for the challenge

The journey began on 24 April 2025 with a case launch in Hong Kong, where DILOPG representatives who travelled from Japan to introduce Okayama’s unique tourism landscape. Immersing in Okayama

Embarking on a 11-day study trip in Okayama, the students conducted field research, engaged with local stakeholders, and experienced the region’s culture—from the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter to rejuvenating hot springs. The students also gained insights into Japan’s diverse business landscape and broadened their global perspectives through visits to Nissin Foods, KEWPIE Corporation, Aozora Bank, and Marubeni Corporation.

These firsthand experiences deepened their understanding of Okayama’s tourism ecosystem and business environment, providing practical insights for their proposal development.
