Alumni Meet in Shenzhen for a Day of Food, Fun and Learning

An annual alumni gathering, organised by the CUHK Business School Shenzhen Alumni Association, was held on Saturday, 27 January in the Futian District of Shenzhen. Over 180 Business School alumni from Hong Kong and Shenzhen joined this special event.

Over 180 Business School alumni from Hong Kong and Shenzhen joined this special event, which was also attended by Prof. Vincent Chang, Associate Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen; Prof. Dennis Ng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Mr. Daniel Cheng, Director of CUHK’s Alumni Affairs Office; Mr. John Lee, President of the Federation of the Alumni Association of CUHK; Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of CUHK Business School; and Ms. Florence Lai, Director of the Business School’s Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office.

The gathering began with lunch at Heyaxuan Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant in the Shenzhen International Innovation Centre. Mr. Ruisheng Sheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Shenzhen Alumni Association, delivered welcoming remarks and introduced participants to members of the Board of Directors. Next, alumni learned about the latest developments taking place at their alma mater and the Shenzhen campus from Prof. Dennis Ng, Prof. Kalok Chan and Prof. Vincent Chang, who gave an informative presentation.

After enjoying a delectable meal, everyone headed to the adjacent Shenzhen Finance Institute to join the FinTech Forum, the highlight of the event, and enjoyed a brief introduction from Executive Director Prof. Liu Ming. A new top-level international institute established by CUHK-Shenzhen with a focus on finance education and research, it fosters the exchange of knowledge between academics and industry professionals. With the theme “New Age, New Technology, New Finance”, the forum featured three distinguished speakers: Mr. Adrian Zhu, Vice President of Tencent; Mr. Hu Wei, Deputy General Manager (Technology) of Ping On; and Prof. Bohui Zhang, Associate Director of the Shenzhen Finance Institute, who discussed how technology has transformed the finance industry as well as people’s daily lives. Next, a panel featuring an in-depth discussion took place and was moderated by Mr. Zhaoqin Zhou, Director of Shenzhen Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and General Manager of the Finance Sharing Service Department at Tencent.

Prof. Kalok Chan said, “I am very impressed by the event hosted by our Shenzhen Alumni Association. I would like to extend my appreciation to the Organising Committee for working hard to connect our alumni in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.” Ms. Florence Lai was very pleased with the event as well, saying, “I greatly enjoyed this wonderful gathering. I believe its success demonstrates the strength of our alumni network, as well as the unity and dedication of our graduates. This truly reveals how the influence of the Business School has spread beyond Hong Kong to the Pearl River Delta.”
