China Conference Week Reveals the Latest Business Insights into China’s Markets

In the week of 23 May 2016, CUHK Business School hosted two academic conferences, both with a theme related to China business. The two events attracted nearly 300 participants, including local academics and top scholars from renowned universities in North America and China.

Fifth Symposium on Emerging Financial Markets: China and Beyond

Organised by the Department of Finance, the symposium was held on May 25 and 26. It provided a platform for researchers to discuss fundamental research and policy issues related to emerging financial markets.

The two-day symposium was kicked off by a welcome speech by Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of CUHK Business School and Prof. Wei Xiong, Symposium Co-Chair, Academic Dean of the School of Management and Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Professor of Princeton University. Five plenary sessions were scheduled to discuss different topics, including sentiment and succession tournaments, financial development around the world, allocation of capital, fraud and sin culture and corruption.

2nd China-Europe Conference: Transparency, Economic Institutions and Governance

Organised by the Center for Institutions and Governance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School, the conference was held on May 27 and 28. With its aim to facilitate interactions among participants and to foster discussions and research on global institutions and governance in the fields of accounting, finance and economics, the conference attracted more than 80 local and international scholars to attend.

Starting with a welcoming remarks by Prof. T.J. Wong, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Accountancy and Director of Center for Institutions and Governance and Prof. Tianyu Zhang, Associate Professor of the School of Accountancy and Associate Director of Center for Institutions and Governance, the two-day event featured a keynote speech by Prof. S.P. Kothari of MIT Sloan School of Management and a series of lectures and paper workshops.
