Do you want to discover the wisdom of the ancients who shaped Chinese art and philosophy? The BBA Alumni Association organised two lectures, on 26 February and 30 March respectively, to study Zhou Yi, one of the most important works of classical Chinese literature.

Held at the MBA Town Centre, the two seminars kicked off the ‘Traditional Chinese Scholarship as Today’s Reference’ lecture series, and were attended by alumni eager to discover the wisdom of classical Chinese monographs. Guest speaker Mr. Jonathan Chan, a seasoned investment manager in the financial industry, has studied Zhou Yi since the age of 4.

Focusing on the theme ‘Study on Zhou Yi: from Number, Image to Reasoning’, Mr. Chan shared insights on theories contained in the book using his unique number-image-reasoning approach, which he presented in a systematic and analytical manner. He helped the audience appreciate Yin and Yang, the most important concept in Zhou Yi, and its application. Alumni also received a brief introduction to Hetu, Loshu, the Eight Trigrams, and 12 cyclical hexagrams.

The enlightening lectures widened the participants’ horizons, and they requested further opportunities to study the subjects. Mr. Raymond Lo, President of the BBA Alumni Association, was thankful for the overwhelming response. “The seminars on Zhou Yi are only the initial instalment of our traditional Chinese scholarly literature series. More events to enhance our wisdom and intellect will be conducted in the next two months.”
