On Saturday, 12 March, the CUHK Alumni Association of Macau (CUAAM) organised a Spring Lunch at the Plaza Restaurant in Macau. The meal was well attended by around 50 guests, including Business School Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director Ms. Florence Lai and an EMBA delegation led by Program Director Prof. Andrew Chan.

CUAAM’s Honorary Chairman, Mr. Patrick Huen, gave a warm welcome to everybody during his opening remarks, as the gathering got underway. Then, CUAAM’s President, Ms. Evonne Chiu, gave a brief report on the activities conducted by the alumni association since its inauguration last November. She also shared the upcoming activity plan and expressed her aspiration to connect alumni in Macau and Hong Kong to build a stronger alumni network.

Everyone then enjoyed a sumptuous Chinese feast comprising a range of delicious cuisines. After guests had finished eating, they enjoyed the highlight of the gathering: an interesting talk by Mr. Ian Huen, Founder of Guardian Capital Management Limited. He spoke about the last days of the Ching Dynasty, particularly using the Opium Wars to highlight the associated link between past history and modern society. His insights elicited rounds of applause from the floor. Mr. Huen will host a lecture series on the history of the Ching Dynasty from 26 February to 22 April at CUHK, organised by the Institute of Chinese Studies.

To date, there are around 200 alumni living in Macau. In the 2015/16 academic year, nearly 400 current students are from Macau, including over 300 undergraduates, 60 postgraduates and 9 doctorates. There is no doubt that the CUAAM will play a significant role in developing stronger ties between alumni in Macau and Business School alumni around the globe, particularly for those from surrounding regions. The well-prepared lunch gathering showcased the hard work and team spirit of alumni in Macau. On behalf of the Business School, we extend our deep gratitude and look forward to further collaboration with CUAAM in the near future.
