Inspiring Inauguration Ceremony Ignites an Exciting Journey for 800 New CUHK Business School Undergraduates

On 4 September 2023, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School welcomed around 800 new undergraduates from 23 different countries and regions at the Inauguration Ceremony, which marked the official start of their university journey.

Prof. Lin Zhou, Dean of CUHK Business School began the ceremony with a heart-warming welcome address. He encouraged the new cohort to continue discovering their purpose and dreams as they grow and expand their horizons at CUHK Business School, “We hope these experiences and connections will inspire you to identify your unique role in contributing to a better world. They should empower you to unleash your full potential, to make a significant impact on your career, and ultimately, help you grow into a better person who dares to dream bigger.”

On this special occasion, the Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Award 2023 was presented to Ms. Cindy Chow (BBA 1992), Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund. Established in 2000 and dedicated to CUHK Business School alumni, this prestigious award recognises outstanding business leaders who have made significant contributions to business world and have advanced the societal ideals through their exceptional leadership.

Ms. Cindy Chow, an alumna of CUHK Business School, has wholeheartedly embraced the spirit of giving back to the community by leading the fund in investing in Hong Kong-based start-ups and inspiring young individuals to pursue their passions and entrepreneurial visions. She graciously shared her transformative journey from being a student at CUHK Business School to her current position with the freshmen.

The event reached its climax with the signature badge presentation ceremony. Ms. Chow, along with faculty members, presented badges to student representatives from each programme. This tradition signifies the responsibility, professionalism and commitment our students have undertaken, symbolising their formal transition into the business profession.

In his closing address, Dr. Fred Ku, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of CUHK Business School, introduced the guiding principle “RISE,” which stands for “Resources, Innovation, Society, and Entrepreneurship”. He urged students to make the most of CUHK Business School’s resources, explore new possibilities and strive for excellence.
