The Chinese University of Hong Kong has historical roots in the Chinese mainland and since its inception in 1963, has established strong and mutually beneficial relationships with key universities and academic staff, research institutions and other prominent bodies in the mainland. Such relationships also provide an invaluable opportunity for staff and students to remain abreast of the leading developments in the Chinese business world, to conduct research, and to form links that will be valuable in their future careers.
The University has a firm commitment to the Pearl River Delta region. This is evidenced by the establishment of the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute located in Shenzhen. CUHK also opens its doors to a new campus in the Longgang District of Shenzhen in 2014. CUHK Shenzhen was set up with the support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and approved by the State Ministry of Education. The new business school is called the School of Management and Economics (SME) of CUHK Shenzhen.
