Teaching and Learning

The CUHK Business School attaches great importance to teaching and learning. We are committed to continuously improve the educational quality in order to ensure that the best education is provided for students.

The following measures are in place to strengthen the teaching and learning quality:

  • At the Business School Level

    1. AACSB’s “Assurance of Learning” (AoL) mechanism

The CUHK Business School was accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB). As stated by AACSB in “AACSB Accreditation and Its Importance in Choosing a Business School”:

“AACSB Accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Less than 5% of the world's 13,000 business programs have earned AACSB Accreditation. AACSB-accredited schools produce graduates that are highly skilled and more desirable to employers than other non-accredited schools.”

CUHK Business School adopted AACSB’s concept of “outcomes assessment” through the “Assurance of Learning” (AoL) framework. Specific learning goals were formulated and appropriate direct assessments of learning methods were chosen so to identify students’ learning areas that have deficiencies or opportunities for improvement.

    2. Other Teaching and Learning Initiatives

In addition to implementing AACSB’s concept of AoL, the following are also in place to encourage continuous improvement of teaching and learning quality:

      1. The Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award and the Faculty Teaching Award served as recognition of the awardees’ achievements in teaching and commitment to providing quality education.
      2. The Faculty gave inputs to the University for the Quality Assurance Council (QAC) Audit, an audit exercise undertaken by an Audit Panel appointed by the QAC, an advisory body under the University Grants Committee (UGC).
      3. The Visiting Committee System, which comprised of senior academics from other business schools, conducted reviews within a four-year cycle on the performances of the Departments and Schools, and gave advice and recommendations to the Departments and Schools for future developments.
  • At the University Level

The following University’s guidelines and mechanisms are observed by the Business School:

    1. Outcome-based Approaches to Teaching and Learning
    2. University Teaching Awards for Exemplary Teaching
    3. Policy on Assessment of Student Learning
