On 19 March, a group of 20 alumni volunteers visited Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) Tai Po Homing Centre for a warm weekend together with abandoned dogs. It was the first-ever community event benefiting animals, organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office of the CUHK Business School.

HKDR Tai Po Homing Centre is home to around 400 abandoned dogs ranging from medium to large in size. The alumni arrived early in the morning and were briefed by an experienced HKDR volunteer. Alumni learned about the organisation and its mission and operations, as well as temporary foster care and permanent adoption. They also received advice on communicating with dogs before embarking on the highlight of the day –– dog walking! Pairs of alumni were assigned a dog and walked them along a nearby country trail, interacting with them along the way. The alumni enjoyed this pleasant experience, strolling under the sun while chatting and taking photos together with the happy dogs.

Apart from a donation of HK$100 per person, which went to HKDR, alumni also showed their support for the organisation by purchasing HKDR souvenirs, including reusable bags, backpacks, T-shirts, umbrellas and calendars. The visit concluded with a networking dim-sum lunch at the on-campus Chung Chi College Staff Club, allowing the alumni to further connect with each other in a comfortable setting.

Ms. Florence Lai, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, was grateful for the opportunity to arrange this meaningful visit with HKDR. “It was our first time organising an alumni activity benefiting animals, and I was thrilled with the overwhelming response,” said Ms. Lai. “We will continue exploring other innovative and interesting community events, and look forward to the continued support of our fellow alumni.”
