More than 80 people gathered together for the “FinTech Forum cum Dean’s Welcome Dinner” at the Ritz-Carlton Beijing on 9 December 2017.

On 9 December 2017, more than 80 people, including faculty members and alumni, gathered together for the “FinTech Forum cum Dean’s Welcome Dinner” at the Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street. The event was organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, with the support of the MBA Programme in Finance (FMBA), the EMBA (Chinese) Programme, the FMBA Beijing Alumni Network, and the CUHK Business School Beijing Alumni Association.

Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of CUHK Business School, opened this highly anticipated forum with a welcome address and briefing about the latest developments within the Business School. “This event provides a valuable opportunity to gather in Beijing and exchange ideas about FinTech with opinion leaders. As one of the most renowned business schools in the region, it is our mission to nurture a new generation of game changers who are ready to meet the dynamic challenges of the future.”

The keynote speech, with the theme of “AI and Financial Markets”, was given by Prof. Michael Zhang of Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics. “Like it or not, AI is influencing our daily lives”, he said. Prof. Zhang reflected on the evolution of, and breakthroughs in, genetic engineering and AI, giving compelling examples. His insightful presentation piqued curiosity about the challenges and opportunities generated by AI in financial markets.

Afterwards, another presentation and panel discussion took place, featuring three distinguished speakers: Mr. Zhou Xiaoming, Deputy General Manager of Tianhong Asset Management Co. Ltd. and Leader of the Yu’ebao Project; Ms. Tian Ying, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of OKCoin; and Mr. Yang Yu, Co-CEO of iGoldenBeta Financial Technology Co. Ltd. The moderator was Ms. Xu Shangyue, Vice President of Z-park River Capital. They shared their insights about FinTech, which ignited a lively Q&A session. Both Mr. Zhou and Ms. Xu are alumni of the MBA Programme in Finance.

Following the forum, a dinner was held in a relaxed setting where alumni and faculty members mingled. “This is a forum and dinner for our alumni in Beijing. Thanks to the tremendous positivity it generated, we will organise more events in the future to engage our mainland alumni,” said Ms. Florence Lai, Director of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office.
