Shaping Asia’s future at the inaugural Asian Century Summit 2024
Co-organised by the Office of MBA Programmes and MBA in Finance Programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School, the inaugural Asian Century Summit 2024 successfully concluded on 10 August 2024. More than 250 thought leaders, industry experts, and alumni gathered for meaningful dialogues on the key factors shaping the Asian Century.
In their opening remarks, Professor Wan Wongsunwai, Director of MBA Programmes, and Professor Gu Zhaoyang, Director of MBA in Finance Programme, highlighted Asia’s pivotal role in the global economy.
During the keynote address, Mr Wilfred Yiu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Co-Chief Operating Officer and Co-Head of Markets of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, highlighted Hong Kong’s strategic position as an international financial hub and its essential role in Asia’s growth. Mr Albert Wong (MBA 1994), Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, delivered another keynote address, underscoring the region’s thought leadership in technology, business and education.
A series of thought-provoking speeches and panel discussions followed, exploring a number of factors critical to driving growth in the Asian Century. Dr Anna Yip (BBA 1991) Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Telecommunications Limited, provided an overview of the opportunities and challenges in Asia, emphasising the importance of cross-border collaboration in fostering growth in the region. Mr Alan To (MBA 2005), Group Chief Executive Officer, Climate Finance Asia, highlighted the critical roles different sectors play in contributing to a sustainable future for the region. Professor Ding Anhua, Former Chief Economist of China Merchants Bank (CMB) and Chief Economist of CMB International, discussed Hong Kong’s unique position in facilitating Chinese enterprises to go global.
The event concluded on a high note with the alumni townhall meeting. Mr T.K. Chiang (MBA 1998) of Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings Limited, Mr Kim Man Wong (MBA 1985), Chief Financial Officer, Hong Kong Electric Investment, and a panel of other distinguished alumni shared valuable insights on their leadership and professional journeys, providing an inspiring conclusion to the event.
