Hosted at the Cheng Yu Tung Building on 19 August, the MBA Opening Ceremony of the Class of 2018 welcomed over 100 guests, including members of the new MBA cohort and their families, along with MBA teachers and alumni.

Ms. Stephanie Villemagne, Associate Dean of Graduate Programmes and Director of MBA Programmes, kicked off the ceremony by inviting Prof. Kalok Chan, Business School Dean, to deliver a welcome speech. He encouraged the freshmen to prepare themselves for the challenges of a knowledge-based economy, and to contribute their utmost to the development of Hong Kong and its surrounding region with “our shared vision of building a better world”.

The highlight of the evening was a speech by Ms. Eirene Yeung, a senior alumna who is a member of the Executive Committee and the Company Secretary of Cheung Kong Property Holdings Ltd. Ms. Yeung offered her advice for leading a meaningful life that not only benefits others but also contributes to society. “Think about how you can help your peers, your family, your company, the society and the world. We all can make a difference!” she said, wishing them a fruitful journey in the years ahead.

Other items on the agenda included presentations from Prof. David Ahlstrom of Department of Management and Prof. Paul McGuinness of Department of Finance on the objectives of the programmes, as well as their insights on making the best of the curricula. There was also a sharing session conducted by alumni and student representatives of the Class of 2018, who spoke of their dreams and reminisced on the impact of their pre-term experiences, such as Outward Bound.

The ceremony concluded with laughter and applause as a group photo was taken to commemorate the evening. The attendees mingled over light refreshments afterwards as they continued to enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
