Accountancy - Overview

The School of Accountancy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been dedicated to the education and preparation of individuals who seek careers in professional accounting and related fields for more than 50 years.  The School is accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) - International and the Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA).  Our programs are accredited by several professional bodies including the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the CPA (Australia). We have been a pathfinder and leader in accounting education in the region.

On research, our faculty members have published numerous papers in premier academic journals that put us in a comparable position to the top accounting programs in US.  The Centre of Institute of Governance was set up in 2004 and has continuously contributed influential accounting research on emerging markets.  To increase the internationalization of the school, prominent scholars from overseas institutions are invited to share their research work on a regular basis and we present our own at international conferences and institutions on a regular basis too.

Our degree programs include the BBA in Professional Accountancy (PACC), the Master of Accountancy (MAcc), the Executive Master of Professional Accountancy (EMPAcc), and the Master/Doctor of Philosophy (MPhil/PhD) in Accountancy. In particular, the EMPAcc Program is jointly offered with the Shanghai National Accounting Institute since 2002 and is the first of kind in China.  We enjoy strong links with prestigious institutions around the world and overseas exchange opportunities are abundant for our students.  Our graduates are consistently top performers in HKICPA qualifying exams and are in an ideal position to take up their roles as professionals and business leaders.

The School will continue to respond proactively to the ever-changing environment and be the leader of quality accounting education and innovator in scholarly activities.  We treasure our CUHK heritage, culture, infrastructure and achievements.  The School’s mission is:

“To advance the learning and knowledge of accountancy through teaching and research, and to engage in cutting-edge accounting research that has an Asian focus but a global impact, and provide accounting education that meets international standards, while maintaining regional relevance.”
